Patriots

My Commentary So the wheels have fallen off in Philly!! Another poor home showing from the Eagles. Coaches fighting on the sidelines, fans cheering for Andy Reid to be fired, Desean Jackson gets benched, .... The big talk in Philadelphia this week will be "How many days to pitchers/catchers!!!"

So the door is closed on any even longshot possibility of the Eagles making the playoffs. Most of us Philly fans are just scratching our heads. How can a team with so much talent and so much physical ability have such a horrible season. Something more than team ability is going on in the City of Brotherly Love!!

So what now? As a still faithful Philadelphia fan, I hope we get everyone back healthy and at a bare minimum, have the Eagle entertain us with a high powered and exciting offensive showing in their last part of the season. We know the potential and capability they have with all those exciting players. Let's get back Vick, Maclin, and even Nnambdi. Let's crank up the offensive. There is nothing left to do but to be entertaining.

So here's hoping just for some exciting football!!!

What I think needs to happen for the Eagles to keep winning:
  • Desean Jackson: To be honest, I can't see DeSean returning to Philly next year. To much bad blood going on here. The guy has done nothing at all this year to prove to the Philadelphia ownership, and possibly other teams, that he deserves the big dollars that some of the best WR's in the league get. He had a golden opportunity to light up the field this year, something that would have rang the cash register big time after the season is owner. And don't kid yourself, there will be many teams lining up to sign Desean if Philly doesn't!!
  • Vince Young is no Michael Vick but still not a bad backup QB. If Vick can't go, he's the best 2nd stringer to have leading the team.
  • McCoy gets stopped for the first time all season. One bad game we can handle. Shady just needs to get back to business, turning in his typical numbers of 100+ yards rushing with 2 TD's. He will need to carry the slack made up by the disappearance of that great passing game.
  • Defensive secondary needs to come to play!! (repeat)

Giants

My Commentary It doesn't matter what either teams record is when the Eagles play the Giants, a victory by the Eagles over the Giants is always a good thing. Vince Young steps in and does an admirable job replacing an injured Michael Vick. The Eagles are still hanging on by a thread in terms of an outside shot of a playoff spot but the chances are very slim. A lot of people stepped up for the Eagles, alot of guys who normally don't get a chance.

Desean Jackson was very disappointing in hs behavior. As Chris Collingswirth stated, if he wants to be paid as a superstar in the league, he needs to start acting like one. What a bush-league move by him to deny a 60 yard gain by his childish immature taunting. Just play football and forget about the hot dog stuff. Let your actions stand on their own merits.

Hats off to the defense this weekend. The defensive line played a phenmonimal game. Something they haven't done all year. I'm hoping we see more of this the rest of the season.

Finally, on Nnambdi, what's the issue with Reid. This guy should not only be benched, but I would release him. He has done nothing at all to help the Eagles this year but instead has hurt them. Once again this weekend, he gets burned like toast, as he has all season. For the second time this season, Victor Cruz burns him for another TD. The only thing this guy has done this year was take alot of money from the Eagles. Come on!! How many times are we going to let this get hurt us!!

What I think needs to happen for the Eagles to keep winning:
  • Desean Jackson, as stated above, needs to grow up and act like a top NFL player that he is. His immaturity is not helping him sign a big contract but his behavior doesn't justify him being paid the same as the top receivers in the league. As soon as he acts like an NFL leader, then he can make NFL leader money. All that being said, the guy is electrifying as proven on his punt return.
  • Vince Young needs to continue keeping hte ship afloat until Vick gets back. Not a great performance by Young this weekend but he did what he needed to to get the victory. Great 9 minute long fourth quarter 18 play drive of 80 yards, converting 3 or 4 3rd and longs leading to the final TD.
  • So they finally give McCoy the ball but the Giants did a great job of defending him. He got no running room. So, in my opinion, when a defense stops his running game, the Eagles need to find a different way to get him the ball. They should have screened to him more, or put him in the slot and hit him over the middle with a short pass and let him do the rest with his legs. And i have to get on his case for that late game 60 yard run. At the very end, you could see him slow down, which caused him to get tackled inside the 10 when he could have easily scored and kept his consecutive game TD record going. Not sure why he gave up so easily on that play.
  • Defensive secondary needs to come to play!!

Cardinals

My Commentary Another embarrassing week for the Eagles. How could the lowly Cardinals with a second string QB beat the "Dream Team"? We have serious problems in the city of Brotherly Love!!! That was a pitiful game. They let Fitzgerald beat them badly!! Where is that high priced secondary? Where is a pass rush from the defensive line? What good is it if you have the best running back in the NFL but don't give him the ball. I don't know about you, but I'm disgusted with this team. My first thought is how many days until pitchers/catchers? But, beng the diehard fan that I am, I will continue to follow them.
What I think needs to happen for the Eagles to turn this ship around:
  • Repeat Statement: Desean Jackson really needs to become a big part of the offense. I'm hoping that he comes back with vengence this weekend after being benched last week. This is his contract year and he hasn't put up any statistics that resemble a superstar.
  • Vick needs to recover from broken ribs. His passing last weekend was horrible but we now know he broke his ribs. All the more reason they should have ran McCoy to death!!
  • Keep feeding McCoy. Keep feeding McCoy. Keep feeding McCoy.
  • Defensive secondary needs to come to play!!
  • Why isn't Nnambdi playing the other teams best receivers, man-to-man, all over the field? The announcers kept saying that during last weeks game. I have to admit, Nnambdi has been a big disappointment and has gotten burned more than he's done good. Let's see if he's can really earn that big paycheck. Sink or swim. Fitzgerald killed the Eagles secondary.

Bears

My Commentary After a crushing defeat last Monday night to the Chicago Bears, the Philadelphia Eagles find themselves in an almost impossible position in the NFL. Even if they run the table winning the next seven games they wind up with a 10 wins, a record which may not be enough to make the playoffs. I'm not sure what happened!! They seemed to be heading in the right direction but they just collapsed on Monday night. The secondary is struggling big time, dropped passes and no rush defense from the D-line was really a killer. They made Jay Cutler look like an All-Pro!!

As Eagles fans, we find ourselves in an unfamiliar position. With a three and five record, we haven't been this bad in many years. Not sure if there's any upside left in this season. We're not used to this where we're usually playing for the playoffs. I guess the only thing we can hope for is that in the remaining week's of the season, they can run off a string of seven victories and just hope things fall in the right place for them to make the playoffs. I really think they have the offenses skills to make this happen. They have the fastest receivers and probably the best running back and a dynamic quarterback that when all are clicking on all cylinders, this is the most exciting offense to watch. The secondary really needs to step up and the defense needs to stop the run.

What I think needs to happen for the Eagles to turn this ship around:
  • Desean Jackson really needs to become a big part of the offense. Where has this guy been this season? Now that he's been declared ineligible for todays game against the Cardinals, things can only get worse. Sounds like there is some bad things happening in Philly. It is his contract year!!!
  • Vick needs to use his speed and run more. That may be the thing that will open up the deep pass as the d-backs start inching up to help contain his running.
  • Keep feeding McCoy.
  • Defensive secondary needs to come to play!!
